When it would have
been easier to look the other way, Jill Stanek's commitment to Christ
led her to risk her job, reputation, and friendships to stop the
terrible practices of abortion and infanticide. Jill is a Registered
Nurse in the Labor & Delivery Department at Christ Hospital
in Oak Lawn, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. Discovering that abortions
were being committed there, and not only that but also that babies
were being aborted alive and allowed to die without medical care,
Jill at first tried to privately dissuade hospital religious, medical,
and administrative leaders from continuing this abominable practice.
Since then - when hospital leaders said that
they would not stop - Jill went public and has become a national
figure in the effort to protect both born and pre-born infants.
She testified on July 20, 2000, and July 12, 2001, before the Judiciary
Constitution Subcommittee of the U.S. House of Representatives and
has been interviewed by several key Pro-life congresspersons, senators,
and staffers, including Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert's office.
She also testified before the Illinois Senate Judiciary Committee
on March 27, 2001, and before the Illinois House Judiciary I Committee
on May 9, 2001, in regard to Illinois' package of Born Alive bills
(which to date have not passed).
Jill has now been quoted in the national media
on television, on radio, in print, and by local and national legislators.
There are hundreds of examples, but some of these include:
- Fox TV News programs O'Reilly Factor
and Hannity and Colmes
- Chuck Colson's radio program Breakpoint
- Dr. Jerry Falwell's television program
Listen America
- Articles and editorials in U. S. News
and World Report, World Magazine, the Washington
Times, Newsweek, Christianity Today, and Focus
on the Family Citizen Magazine
- U. S. Senate floor debate on the Partial
Birth Abortion Ban by Senator Bob Smith in September 1999; House
of Representatives floor debate on the Born Alive Infant Protection
Act by Congressman Charles Canady in September 2000; U. S. Senate
floor debate on the Born Alive Infants Protection Amendment to
the Patient's Bill of Rights by Senator Rick Santorum in June
2001
God's blessing has already brought some changes.
Since receiving much adverse attention, Christ Hospital no longer
aborts nonfatally ill handicapped children such as those with Down's
syndrome and spina bifida. But abortions of fatally ill children,
children who are products of rape or incest, children of multiple
gestation, and for reasons of life or "health" of the
mother still go on at this hospital named after our Lord and Savior.
Jill remains at the hospital, fighting the fight from the inside
to try and stop all abortion there.
Jill is a member of Parkview Christian
Church in Tinley Park, IL. She is wife to Rich, and mother to Michael,
Timothy and Daena, mother-in-law to Bernadine, and recently grandmother
to Gabriel! She has addressed many groups at the national, regional,
and local levels sharing her testimony and giving an insider's view
to the atrocity of abortion.
